Next time when you enter the sales room at a BMW dealer anywhere in the world you might be able to see Microsoft Surface in action!
For the very first time, at least to my knowledge, someone is doing a big deployment of the new stunning Microsoft Surface. (Yes - MSNBC News used it during the US Presidential Election and that was high profile but this is high volume)
The application is called 'BMW Product Navigator' and it will give the user the ability to build his own car!
It is only logical that BMW is the first to use Microsoft Surface in this clever way. At BMW they lead the way of building cars according to the customer's pick of optional extras. It is hard to find a BMW that is exactly the same as any other as the range of combinations with options is so big and now Microsoft Surface will make it easier to see how it looks like.
BMW's former Chairman, Dr. Helmut G.W. Panke, is also a director on the board of Microsoft so he saw Microsoft Surface at its early stage and I guess he got inspired. It is great to have such forward looking people in the automotive industry!
Regards, Per
PS. I had the true pleasure to meet with Dr. Panke last year when he visited the WPC 2007 in Denver in order to learn more about Microsoft's technology and the partner eco-system. He is a very clever and nice person that I respect very much indeed!
