Then you should help your customers to take out cost. I am thinking about projects and services that will give the customer ROI (Return On Investment) within this fiscal year.
You customer is probably also affected by the downturn and the best way to help your customers is to look at what you can do that will have a positive impact within a few months.
The projects and services that you suggest needs to be backed up with solid calculations and if you cannot prove that the impact is great enough then don't bother.
Helping your customers in today's economy is good for both parties. Your customer's IT budget is probably shrinking and then it is important to remember that the biggest cost is often manpower and by helping your customer to outsource or to automate and streamline work he can do more with less people and that will have a positive impact on his P&L.
